Overcoming Procrastination

God is here and now, don’t ‘put off ’til tomorrow what you can do today’ do ‘put off the old man and be the new’

Well I just spent thirty minutes thinking and praying about procrastination, taking a few notes on my computer, as I do.  I hit the save button and the computer crashed…. oh well I thought, will go back into it when I get home from Sunday School…

Home now and do you think I can get back into the software… nah because God is in control, not me and I have work to do. Procrastinating about procrastination is procrastination. ‘A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand’ – God sees to that!

I must be up and doing…. expressing God. Tomorrow never comes, it is always tomorrow. Just focus on the here and now.

If we live in the here and now, which is God, no past, no future, just the present and find God and we have no time to procrastinate. There is no time in the now.

Most of us would generally admit that procrastination is different to patiently waiting.  Waiting patiently on the Lord is knowing that our prayers will be answered and trusting in God.  Procrastination is making excuses for not doing what we should be doing especially when we know that we should do it.

God is just and we should therefore make righteous judgement and then obey, follow though.  That includes making good decisions every moment.  Be up and doing.

All behavior stems from thought so we need to take a stand for anti procrastination, be against procrastination, against tomorrow for ‘now is the accepted time’.  Be assertive and count your blessings, soldier on, it may be a struggle at first but the more we practice living in the here and now the more we become active, organized, disciplined.  Gods legion of angels are forever with us, guiding us and giving us strength to do what we should do, now. ‘Never wait for tomorrow’, focus on now – be it planning, prioritizing, delegation, sorting, cleaning, homework, employment ~ we are and always should be employed – doing God’s work – expressing God – expressing Love, Joy and happiness.

God is good and God supplies us with everything we need to achieve whatever it is that we need to achieve. Discipline and obedience is the key, start controlling your thoughts and do what needs to be done, your highest sense of right – what you know is right.  One step at a time.  Do the most important that needs to be done NOW.

The NOW, ‘the being’ in God, of God, where you take a stand for what is good, doing what is acceptable to God (ask yourself is this what God wants me to be doing now?) Most importantly doing what is right at the right time, right moment, right now.

Listen to God and obey him. Do not being side-tracked by what may be considered less important activity until you get a clear message from God that he wants you to change your course and in fact you have done all that needs to be done with a particular activity – for now! There is one track and it is the straight and narrow – doing what needs to be done, NOW.  No ifs, buts, maybes, living in the now your mind cannot stray and as such nor can your activities. Stop measuring time, stop feeling weighed down by the perception of the struggle. Be up and doing with joy, gratitude and happiness and doors will open, hurdles will be jumped and all will be well, is well.

“Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the Lord. Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.  The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them.” Proverbs 20:10-12

“Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.  Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.” Psalm 33:2-4

I assume a harp has 10 strings – this also relates to obeying the 10 commandments – thus you can sing and play a new song; one more beautiful, lovelier than before – make a joyness noise – sing a joyful song.

He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.  Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.  Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.” Psalms 98:3-5

As of today, be doing with joy, with singing ~ Now.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
